This folder includes an article from the National Genealogical Society Quarterly about the will of Michael Curtis, surviving spouse of Sarah Gerard, a widow of Justinian Gerard. At his wife's death, Curtis came into considerable property in St. Mary's County and lots of personal property, including slaves. The article focuses on Curtis' attempts to manumit several of his slaves and his devisings to many other legatees. The author then launched into attempts to account for the connection to Curtis of the many legatees.Collection
