Description

3"h x 3 1/8"w with a 12" cord and pencil dance program for the June Ball at Charlotte Hall Military Academy. This is a very clever, nearly circular, piece. Your eye is looking down the barrel of a cannon--very black in the center and gray green around the rim. An 9 /16" diameter embossed circle is in the center of the cannon with the word "Impage De Coussin Bello Presidium" within the circle, only visible with a magnifying glass. An elegant young lady leans on one side of the cannon and a Cupid with a military cap leers at her from the other side. Two tiny white flowers are at the base of the cannon. In dark gold letters on the gray green circle "Charlotte Hall Military School June Ball 1911. The back cover was plain cream color. A red and black cord runs through the small spine, so that the tassel is on the bottom and the pencil hangs down from the program 8". The slim red pencil is 3 1/8" long and has "E. A. Wright Phila." stamped in gold on the barrel. The program was executed by E. A. Wright in Philadelphia. There are four pages: a cover page (Cadet Captain and Adjutant J. H. Withgott was master of ceremonies and Cadet Captain J. S. Gough was his assistant), one pair of pages for Dances and Engagements, and a final page listing committee members. There were no entries in the program.
