1 half-size box and 2 over-size items in Charles E. Fenwick Collection, Box 21 This collection includes a legal petition drafted by John F. Dent (1814-1898) and a letter of introduction for his son-in-law, but the majority of the material has to do with Joseph H. Dent's (1845-1929) business affairs in Georgia and Maryland. There is an inventory of Burlington that appears to be in Joseph Dent's handwriting, so it may have been done in 1898 at the time of the elder Dent's death. Beginning in 1900, when Joseph and Fannie Dent took over management of Burlington farm, there are many receipts for tobacco sold in Baltimore and bills for farm-related items. There are gasoline receipts and eventually telephone bills. There are bills for tuition, room and board, and supplies for sundry children at school. There are a few bundles of cancelled checks. One would wish for more material to be able to form a better picture of the economics of farm life in the early years of the 20th century. A large poster-size plat, advertising lots for sale in Newnan, Georgia, has survived, albeit in two parts. The lots owned by J.H. Dent are marked.
