1 legal size correspondence box, 1 4 1/4 x 6 1/4 x 12 1/2 storage box This collection includes a copy of the Order of Exercises for the dedication of the Leonard Calvert Monument at St. Mary's City on June 3, 1891. John F. Dent (1814-1898) was a member of the Monument Commission. There is a folder of baptism and school records for Joseph and Fanny Dent's four children and some homework exercises as well. There is a copy of a ladies' magazine called the Delineator (Vol. 46, no.2, August, 1895), published by the Butterick Publishing Co., of sewing patterns fame. It has articles on housekeeping and grooming, a large advice column, needlework patterns, and all kinds of advertisements. There is an undated prescription for cold remedies from Dr. Dent. There is no indication which of the Drs. Dent this might be. Someone, possibly Joseph Dent, copied a brief entry on George Dent of Maryland as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from 1793-1801. There is a printed copy of the remarks of John F. Dent at the Maryland Constitutional Convention of 1851, an album of sentimental poetry belonging to Mollie E. Dent in March 1861, a poor copy of John Marshall Dent's teaching certificate of 1868, 2 versions of Joseph H. Dent's wartime experiences, 2 deposit tickets to J. H. Dent's account in a Carrollton, Georgia bank, a bank book in J. H. Dent's name in the First National Bank of Newnan, Georgia for the early 1880s, a small note book handed out by W. T. Bell, a map of the Mount Olivet Cemetery and pictures of the grave stones of Mrs. Mary Surratt and Major Henry Wirz, C.S.A. as well as a small photo of John H. Surratt, an essay on the life of Susan Dent by her granddaughter, an invitation to the wedding of John Francis Dent to Elizabeth Palmer in 1926, John Dent's ration book from WWII, and clippings about various family members. There are a few recipes, some love poetry, and turn of the century advertising circulars. One folder is devoted to ceremonies, booklets, etc. remembering the War Between the States, including the souvenir book of the United Confederate Veterans Reunion of 1919 in Atlanta, material on the centennial of the Peace Convention of 1861, booklets from the Maryland Civil War Centennial Commission of 1961-1965, and a list of those from St. Mary's County who served officially and unofficially for the Confederate cause. In another box are two pair of spectacles that probably belonged to John F. Dent, some locks of hair, dance cards, some sheets of mica, Christmas cards, and several photographs, very few of which are identified.
