This series of books is confusing because of the date overlaps. My guess is that one ledger was kept at each window and whomever worked that window made the entries. The entries for a date were alphabetical by name, which could only be done at the end of the day. Perhaps the teller alphabetized the deposit tickets from that day and then filled the ledger. Deposits into savings accounts were nearly always recorded in red. Some entries are illegible because the handwriting was so bad. These books were tall and relatively narrow.
