Mary, Ruth, and Elizabeth Hebb were born in Saint Mary's County. The papers in this collection have information about the Hebb family and some information about the sisters' school in Wilmington, Del. There are 21 diaries, but the entries in most are spotty. The first real day to day entries are in the book for 1922-23, when the ladies had retired from the school. There was a similar book for 1923-24. In 1924 began the series of Wanamaker diaries, published by the Wanamaker Co. in Philadelphia for their customers. These books have advertising, theater diagrams to guide ticket purchases, maps of the city, recipes, and other interesting features. The ladies used these as diaries and as account books. Some years are missing, but the record is fairly complete to 1942. A duplicate 1940 diary is marked up to serve as the 1946 book, but there are hardly any entries in it. The collection also contains two address books. I believe Miss Elizabeth did most of the entries in these books. Her handwriting declined markedly during the 1930s.Collection
