Members of the Dorsey family practiced law in the county for generations. Nearly all of these papers were part of Phillip H. Dorsey, Jr.'s practice. Much of the material has to do with debt collection during the 1920s and 1930s at the behest of Washington and Baltimore firms that had outstanding accounts with merchants and farmers in the county. Dorsey was slow to dun people; they were his neighbors, after all, but sometimes the problems ended up in court. There are deeds, mortgages, a few estates, and a very few criminal cases in these papers.Collection
