1 folder ; 9 5/8 x 14 3/4" Members of the Dorsey family practiced law in the county for generations. The W.B. Dorsey Estate had a half interest in many tobacco crops. Without knowing if these records are complete, the estate earned $2999.80 from the hard labor of twenty-three producers. Philip Dorsey earned a small amount from his shares, as well. The amounts were always shown on the sales receipts, and if the total did not evenly divide, the extra few cents always went to the producer of the crop. The sales receipts often show that the crop was shipped by steamer to the Baltimore consignment merchants and rarely more than two hogsheads at a time. February 15, 1932 Bill of sale for a 2/3 interest in the 1931 tobacco crop of Philip Russell stored in the Reeder Place barn. April 28, 1932 2 hogsheads to the Maryland Tobacco Growers Association, with half the money to Philip H. Dorsey and half to Joseph Jordan from a net sale of $85.95. April 29, 1932 1 hogshead to the Maryland Tobacco Growers Association, with half the money to Philip H. Dorsey and half to Joseph M. Jordan from a net sale of $117.10.
