Description

Black and white photograph 8"h x 10"w that is an enlargement of the part of the photo on page 10 that showed the people. Edith Hazeltine is standing with Fenwick and Abell children in front of the Fenwick home. Edith Hazeltine was an orphan girl who lived with the Fenwicks and helped with the children. This was a fairly common practice at the time. The group is standing in the open gate of the chicken wire fence around the house. There are eight children with Edith. An American flag and a Maryland flag are flying from the gateposts. Since most of the leaves are off the trees, perhaps it is Armistice Day or Columbus Day. The large two and a half story house looms behind the group. The fence on the side away from the gate appears to have a large hole in it. Edith has dark hair parted in the middle and a simple dark dress with a white collar. Two younger children in front have on dresses and dark stockings. Two boys with long dark ties have on knee pants and dark stockings and another boy in a dark jacket also has knee pants. One girl whose clothes are visible has on a white blouse with a darker jumper and dark stockings.
