The collection has 39 boxes of files whose material emphasizes Maryland and Saint Mary's County history and culture. Three boxes comprise correspondence and other information about Beitzell's tenure as a member of the boards of the Maryland Historical Trust and St. Mary's County Historical Society. There are original manuscripts for his four published books and copies or manuscripts of many of his published articles and speeches. Mr. Beitzell corresponded with several friends for many years and one friend kept most of those letters which were passed on to the Society. Beitzell also transcribed part of the diary of John F. Dent. Mr. Beitzell was a devoted alumnus of the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University and served in many capacities in alumni organizations. He also received the John Carroll award for his efforts. Mr. Beitzell has relatively few photographs in his material, but there is a set of aerial photographs of St. Clement's Bay and Island and the western part of Saint Mary's County.Collection
