January 31, 1842 Letter from Elizabeth Gough of Oakley to William B. Stone, Esq. of Port Tobacco. Mrs. Gough thanked Stone for collecting a debt owed to Mrs. Gough by a Mr. Locke. She then asked Stone to give some publicity to Mrs. Gough's plan to open a school taught by a young woman from New York that Mrs. Gough had probably engaged for her own children. Mrs. Gough paid ten cents to send the letter that was postmarked in Leonardtown on February 6. The letter folded so that it formed its own envelope.
An attempt at a transcription is included.Collection
