Envelope Addressed to Mr. Wm. FoulksEntry/Object ID
2024.002.0065Description
Around 6.5"x 3.5" envelope addressed to Mr. Wm. Foulks, 1123 W. Jackson Blvd, Chicago, Illinois. Envelope does not have a return address, however is stamped as going out of St. Marys City at 9am on March 23, 1934. The envelope itself is decorated with a colonial ship, figurehead, and presumably Native Americans with the caption of Tercentenary of the Foundation of Maryland 1634-1934 underneath the design. The decoration is on the left half of the front of the envelope. It has a 3 cent stamp celebrating the Maryland tricentenary, showing the Ark and the Dove. Envelope was received sealed. When opened, there was a blank letter. The design from the front leaves an indent that can be seen and felt from the back.
Possible speculation indicates that the envelope was intended to be received back with some kind of information.Collection
