19 boxes (7' 11") The correspondence of the county examiner, the equivalent of a superintendent of schools, covers all aspects of school administration in St. Mary's County: school building expenses, books and supplies, teachers' salaries, establishment of schools, teacher applications and appointment, curriculum issues, communicating with state and federal authorities, etc. All of this correspondence is by George W. Joy, the examiner from 1896 to 1927.
