This simple box originally had a lid. There are two hinges on one long side and the bottom half of the latch on the other. It is lined with a modern paper towel, folded to fit. On top is a bank note. I am not sure it is real. On each short side are three portraits of early Americans. A dramatic building with columns is in the center of the top. "1000" is in a box on each side of the building and "No. 8894" is handwritten above the denomination. "Seventeen months after date, the Bank of America promises to pay to J. W. Fairman [?] or order One Thousand Dollars in New York. Phildelphia Dec. 15, 1840" It is signed by two gentlemen whose signatures I cannot read. There is nothing on the verso, which makes me think it is not real. It has been damp, so it is bumpy and distorted and there may be staple holes in the upper left corner.
There are 6 pairs of glasses, most with lenses or temples missing
There are 4 pince-nez, one with a lense missing
There are 3 pairs of small scissors, the largest 5 3/8" long, and one pair of tweezers that look much like scissorsCollection
