Fireplace in the Old JailEntry/Object ID
1980.001.0167Description
3 1/2"h x 3 1/2"w color photo of a fireplace in the Old Jail. It is of blond brick, with a small firebox. Above the mantel is a brown square wood panel. The wooden mantel was painted a dusty green. There was a wooden duck decoy, two cannonballs, and a metal vase scattered on the mantel. Another decoy was visible on top of a storage cupboard to the left of the fireplace. On the wall above the cupboard was a color drawing of a sailing ship, probably the Ark or the Dove. On the front of the fireplace, above the firebox, a sword was suspended horizontally, a horseshoe was centered on the brick arch, a trivet was on the right and another small dark tool hung on the left. A pair of andirons with sizable balls on top protected passersby from the [mythical] fire. There was a small brick hearth. There was a side chair on the right.
