One photo album with a metal latch on the right to keep the book closed.
The golden yellow cover shows a late 19th century European village in snow. There is decorative embossing on the corners of the cover.
The spine and back are covered with short fiber velvet with a green background with orange, red, and brown blotches, perhaps meant to suggest flowers hiding among leaves.
This style of album had very heavy cardboard "pages" with a rectangular opening on the cover sheet and a slit below the opening into which was slid the photo. Very attractive leaves and flowers were printed in gold around each photo opening. There were fourteen boards with openings. Twelve boards were meant to accomodate 4" x 6" photos and the two remaining boards had openings for 2 1/2" x 4 1/2" photos. None of the smaller openings were used, but eight boards with the larger openings were used. There were 14 photos in the album. None of them were identified. All the clothing and hair styles appear to date from well before 1900. The album used to be in the Foxwell house at the foot of the hill below St. Mary's/Ryken.Collection
