Scan of a 7"h x 5 1/8"w sepia tone photo of French Forrest of the Confederate Navy. He was sitting in a photographer's chair with a heavy supportive arm and deep fringe. Commodore Forrest was turned slightly in the chair and his left arm rested on the support. His sword hilt was in the crook of that arm. He had shoulder length white hair, dark eyes, and deep creases by his nose. He had on a white shirt with a high collar, a dark vest, and a heavy overcoat. The coat had a deep collar and was double-breasted with eight or nine gold buttons on the front. He wore a fairly wide belt with a round buckle in the center. His shoulder boards were not very visible and I could only see one star. He had four gold stripes on his sleeve. He held his hat in his right hand. The hat had a dark visor and appeared to have a strap that could rotate down to go under the wearer's chin. There were several rows of dark braid above the visor. The insignia on the front of the hat was an oval with two gold? leaves cradling an anchor in a circle. His trousers were not the same color as the coat.
