3 3/8"h x 5 7/8"w black and white photo of the Goldsmith place in Charles County. This is the south gable end and the back. There is an inside end chimney arising from the peak of the main building's gable end, but the roof line on the left sweeps quite low to the ground. A permanent simple ladder is on the long sweep of the roof. The wall below is clapboard. There appear to be four windows and a center door of some kind in that wall. There is a brick addition with a long slope to its roof also; the peak lines up with the right edge of the big chimney. There is only one square window on the back edge of the space, under that window a small opening into the basement and a large opening into the basement on the near side of the addition. Attached to the brick addition is a tall narrow clapboard addition. On the wall are two small boarded-up openings under the eaves, and a window and door on the first floor. There is a square opening in the lower portion of the door that looks for all the world like a pet door. On the gable end is a tall narrow door that is three steps above the ground. Both the additions are painted white up to the eaves. Two men are standing between the house and a gable roofed outbuilding that is propped up by a flying buttress. There is lots of farm clutter in the yard.
