Description

Black and white photo with a faint sepia cast of the grand jurors for the March 1899 term. There is a list of jurors in the sleeve and an attempt to identify the gentlemen in the photo. The building was brick with white "pillars." There were three demilune windows visible; the one in the center was larger and was over the door to the building. The door was set back to create an alcove. There was some glass in the double doors, but the doors were obscured by the men standing on the steps in front. There were five rows of jurors, with two more by themselves in the right foreground. The photographer had obviously asked the men to remove their hats. All the men had on suits and overcoats--it was not a warm day. There were three African-Americans in the group. About half the group had beards, but the younger men were clean-shaven. The man farthest to the right was carrying what looked like a doctor's bag. Mr. Fenwick made a sheet to be overlaid on the photo on which each juror was numbered. Unfortunately, the overlay does not fit the people and he names several people who were not on the juror list. Perhaps the typed list is not accurate either. Daniel C.
