Black and white photo 8"h x 10"w of the grand jury of St. Mary's County for the March term 1899. The gentlemen are grouped on the court house steps. All have on white shirts, ties, vests, usually a suit coat and a top coat. They are holding their hats in their hands to accommodate the photographer. The sheriff and two deputies are standing in the first row on the left and the bailiff is the African-American gentleman on the right. Notice the man on the far right is carrying what looks like a doctor's bag. The court house door appears to be badly in need of paint. If notices actually were nailed to the court house door, that would explain its condition. Mr. Fenwick enlarged this image from a smaller photo he pasted on the verso of this one. He numbered the men in the smaller photo and made a chart to identify them.
