Black and white 3 1/2"h x 3 1/2"w photo of Gravelly Hills or Hamberg near Chaptico. This large home in three sections is in a ruinous state. This view is from the largest section toward the smallest. The main house has a gable roof with a very steep angle and many missing shingles. There are two openings that probably have no glass in the gable end of the roof peak. The clapboards have failed all over this end of the house. There are two windows on the second floor; one is partially boarded up. On the first floor there are two windows, but one is boarded up--it may even be a door. On the second floor of the long wall, there are three six over nine windows. One is near the corner close to the camera and the other two are together near the opposite corner. From the marks on the siding, these windows once had shutters. Some of the glazing is missing. There is a porch across the entire first floor with a shed roof. The porch is three bays wide and is not screened. It appears there are two windows on the far end and the door is at the near end of this elevation. There is a fenced area at this end of the porch that is decorated with a tire thrown over a post. The center section is two stories tall with a gable roof and has a large chimney on its gable end. This section is set back from the roofline of the main house. On the second floor under the eaves, there is one window visible. There is a large porch on the first floor with a shed roof and screens. The door to the porch is slightly left of center. The small section has a gable metal? roof with the porch roof included on the left. It is barely visible.
