Gravelly Hills during renovation 12Entry/Object ID
1995.001.1988Description
3 1/8"h x 3"w black and white photo of the renovation of Gravelly Hills during its rescue by Hope Swann and Elizabeth Hoff. The house was all built at once in 1847. This photo showed the house with its porches removed. The roofs had been replaced and some siding, but there was a long way to go. Three chimneys were visible. The one on the near right was an outside end chimney was just aft of the roof peak. The complete chimney on the far right was also an outside end chimney that had been captured by the middle block. The stack stood away from the gable end well back of the roof peak. The damaged chimney was an outside end affair that stood on the gable end of the main block and in front of the middle block. The upper third of that chimney had completely failed. On the gable end of the small block there were two six over six windows, one in the roof peak and one directly below it. On the long wall, under the porch roof, was a single door. The middle block had a large window with shutters up in the roof peak next to the chimney, two windows on the long wall on the second floor, and a single door and window on the first floor. The main block had no openings in the gable end, three windows on the long wall's second floor and two windows and a door on the first floor.
