Name/Title
Gravelly Hills during renovation 31Entry/Object ID
1995.001.2007Description
3 1/8"h x 3"w black and white photo of the renovation of Gravelly Hills during its rescue by Hope Swann and Elizabeth Hoff. The house was all built at once in 1847. This photo showed the back of the main and middle blocks of the house and the gable end of the small block. The main block had two dormers. There was a large outside end chimney on the right between the main and middle blocks. Another chimney was at the left end of the middle block. There were two dormers in that roof smaller than the dormers in the main block. Each dormer had a six over six window. There was a vent stack between the dormers. There were four windows on the second floor of the middle block and one visible on the first floor, plus a door. There was scaffolding on the entire space to put up siding and to install the second dormer in the middle block and put cedar shakes on that roof. There was also enough scaffolding to allow workmen to repair the windows on each side of the chimney on the gable end of the middle block. The small block was white on the back, but not the gable end. There was an outbuilding to the right with pitiful roofing.
