Description

Carte-de-visite 3 3/4"h x 2 1/4"w on 4"h x 2 1/2"w board of young Harry Spalding. He appears to be a teenager. His head is centered on the camera, but his body is angled slightly to his left. He is looking down into the middle distance. He has dark hair parted just to the left of center. He has dark eyes and a rather heavy mouth. He has on a heavy double-breasted checked jacket with wide lapels and a vest under that. He has on a spread collar shirt with a striped four-in-hand tie. The photo is crooked on the board. On the verso "J [?] B. [?] Pope's" is in red about 1/3 of the way from the top edge. In the center is a sunburst in red around a tall building and below that an artist's palet in front of crossed swords with a ribbon banner saying "New Gallery." Below that is "Marble Building, 103 West Baltimore St., Baltimore, Md." in red lettering. On the top of the card is written in pencil "Harry Spalding married to Lucy Loker one son Jack Spalding." This piece was in the lower left of page 5 of the dark red photograph album.
