3 11/16"h x 2 1/2"w sepia tone carte-de-visite of Henry Greenfield Sothoron Key taken in 1863. Mr. Key is seated in the photographer's chair looking off into the distance. He had on a heavy suit, what looks like a double breasted dotted velvet vest with piping around the wide collar, a white shirt and a dark, possibly silk, tie with a generous knot and short ends. A watch is just visible at the bottom left of his vest. It is difficult to see in this small image, but there is a hole in the knee of his trousers.

Text on verso: At the bottom of the carte in brown ink: "H G S Key August 22, 1863" the logo for the photographer, Bendann Bros., is in the middle of the card in black scrawled at 90 degrees, perhaps as a mailing address, although the ink is very faded "Mrs. F.O. St. Clair [??] Rhode Island Mrs. F.O. St. Clair 1428 Rhode Island Ave. Washington, D.C." [Mrs. St. Clair was John F. Dent's sister]Collection
