Description

8"h x 9 5/8"w black and white photographic reproduction on foam core board. It was a large two story Victorian building. It had dark clapboard siding and light-colored trim. The roof may have been slightly sloped in various directions and there was a two story addition on the back left that had a shed roof. There were two visible chimneys. The verge board had a light background and various colored pieces of gingerbread attached. The elevation to the right had a circular window near the roof peak. Under that was the sign for "Hotel Burroughs." There were three tall windows on the second floor. About two feet below the windows was the top of a porch roof which had an elaborate Chippendale style fence all around, although I don't think there was any access to the rooftop. Below that was a center double door of dark wood and a three light bay window on each side. Shutters and construction materials leaned against the wall. There was a simple raised porch with no railing at all that was three steps above the ground. On the left elevation there was a two decker open porch with elaborate posts and pierced work railings. One large window was visible on the first floor. There was one window visible on each floor of the addition in the back. There was a white picket fence on the left side of the building along the road. Two men stood on the porch and a woman and three little boys stood next to the fence watching the photographer. Dr. Guyther used this in an early presentation on the northern part of the county. *********************************************************** Text above image: "Hotel Burroughs--1910 and H.L.
