This is an enlarged copy of an old photograph. This is a photograph of the workers who were building Hotel St. Mary's. The completely enclosed building is the background for ten standing men, seven seated men and one boy on the ground in front. Some workers have the tools of their trades with them. The youngster appears to have a bucket--perhaps he was the water boy. Three other children are in the doorway of the massive structure. The hotel has a ground floor sunken a few steps below grade, a first and second floor and a full attic. The metal gable roof has a widow's walk and six gable dormers with semi-arched windows in each with two over two lights. There is a substantial gable wing in the center of the building. On the second floor it has a central window and an eyebrow window in the peak and on the first floor the roof extends out with extra pillars to create a substantial entryway and large windows flank the double door. There are three windows with shutters on each side of the central gable; those on the first floor are larger. A power pole is in the left center of the picture and does nothing to enhance the view. There is some construction debris, but not much, so the workman must be nearly finished with the job. Gutters and downspouts are visible. Substantial brick columns create a loggia for the ground floor and wood columns support the large porch roof that runs the entire side of the building.Collection
