Hotel St. Mary's in 1910Entry/Object ID
1995.001.2425Description
3 3/8"h x 5 3/8"w black and white photo of a car in front of Hotel St. Mary's that only occupies two thirds of the card. Cars were a new thing then. Several village men clustered around the machine, an open coupe, driven by young stalwarts in voluminous dusters, hats, and goggles. There was no windscreen at all, but there were large head lights. Mr. Fenwick included his business card, on the verso of which he attempted to identify some of the local people. He identified the car as being from the 4 Leaf Auto Club of Washington, D.C. and says the trip was made in 1910. On the message side of the card, Anita mailed the card to Ethel King on K Street in Washington on July 4, 1914 from the Compton post office. She was impressed with the hotel.
