Black and white 8" x 10" photo of Hotel St. Mary's in the early days. Horses and buggies were in front of the large building. The hotel had a ground floor, a first floor, and a second floor, with three visible dormers in the roof. There was a massive porch on the front and a long wide staircase from the street to the front door. Windows on the second floor had dark shutters. There was a large gabled dormer in the center of the second floor and a widow's walk on the roof. A small railing extended from the central dormer to the edge of the porch roof. The large Hotel St. Mary's sign was fastened on that railing. In this photo, a large tree and a small house were in the right foreground. Mr. Fenwick identified that small building as belonging to the Saint Mary's Reading Room and Debating Society. There were no paved areas in the vicinity.
