Hotel St. Mary's in Leonardtown 2Entry/Object ID
1995.001.1774Description
Black and white 8" x 10" very dark photo of Hotel St. Mary's in the early days. The original photo had a large tear in the upper left corner. One wagon and some sort of wheeled vehicle were in front of the large building. The hotel had a ground floor, a first floor, and a second floor, with six dormers in the roof. There was a massive porch on the front with seven large awnings and a long wide staircase from the street to the front door. There was also a set of stairs on the right from the porch to the ground. Two young trees were fenced in on each side of the staircase. Windows on the second floor had dark shutters. There was a large gabled dormer in the center of the second floor with a demilune window in the peak and a widow's walk on the roof. A small railing extended from the central dormer to the edge of the porch roof. The large Hotel St. Mary's sign was fastened on that railing. In the foreground a vegetated area was fenced off with a wrought iron fence. There were no paved areas in the vicinity.
