This is an enlarged copy of an old photograph. This is a photograph of the workers who were building Hotel St. Mary's. The men are seated on the front steps of the hotel, each with a tool of their trade. The youngster in the bottom row is cut off at the waist and has no visible tools. Two other children are in the doorway above. There are four rows of adult males. In the top row are five men, four with hats and one with a cap. The man on the far left has a paintbrush and has on painter's coveralls. The next man has a hammer and the man in the straw hat has an adze. The man in the black hat does not have a tool in his hand, but the young man next to him has a hammer. In the next row down, the man on the left has a paint brush, and the older man is holding a wood saw. In the next row down, the young man on the far left has a paint brush, as does his neighbor. The man with the wide suspenders has a hammer, but the man to his right has a tool that is not known to me. On the bottom row, the man on the left has a paint brush and so does the man with the luxuriant black mustache. The man next to him has a file and is wearing what could be a blacksmith's apron, so he may be a metal worker. The older man next to the wall has a roll of paper--the plans? He may have been the general contractor. The earnest young man on the bottom was probably the errand boy. A very interesting study.
