Six sheets of 11 1/2"h x 23 3/8"w for the Theodore George Miller, Jr. house to be built somewhere in Compton, Md. The house was designed and built by Mr. Miller. J. Lee Wilkinson was the architect and had the seal of the State of Maryland Board of Examiners and Registration of Architects in the lower left hand corner of all but one sheet. His signature was in the lower right hand corner of sheet 1. The scale of the drawings is 1/4"=1'.
Sheet 1 Front Elevation and Side Elevation The front elevation, on the left, showed an open porch with plain wood columns, a pair of eight over eight light double hung windows and then a single smaller eight over eight light double hung window on the right. The plan called for a composition shingle hipped roof with a 30 degree pitch and brick walls for the house. The side elevation, on the right, showed two eight over eight double hung windows nicely spaced in a brick wall.
Sheet 2. Rear Elevation and Side Elevation The rear elevation, on the left, had an eight over eight light double hung window on the left, a much smaller six over six light double hung window in the center, another larger eight over eight light double hung window to the right, and a door with a single panel below and a nine light window above. There was a very small uncovered porch in front of the door. The side elevation, on the right, had two small six over six light double hung windows widely spaced and a small porch under its own roof on the right. The front door had three small lights near its top.
Sheet 3. Floor plan for the Miller House There is a note, "Entire first floor to be inlaid linoleum." The dimensions showed the house was to be 36' 9 1/2" wide and 26' 9 1/2" deep. The entry door was in the left corner, directly into the living room. The living room opened to the dinette space, with the kitchen to the left. There was a utility room off the kitchen, but it had no access to the outside. The outside door was in the kitchen. Next to the dinette space was a tiny bathroom and there were two bedrooms. There was no stairway to a basement and only a "scuttle" to the attic. There were some detail drawings on the left side of the sheet. No indication of heat source.
Sheet 4. Foundation and 1st Floor Framing There were five concrete piers in the mid-line of the foundation.
Sheet 5. Ceiling Framing This called for 2"x6'es on 16" centers
Sheet 6. Roof Showing Rafters This was to be a composition shingle roof, hipped, with a minimal overhang. On the back of this sheet was a pencil sketch of something unknowable.Collection
