This ledger was one of the very few we could get apart to retrieve the complete pages. It was a four post binder. The pages had a printed “Savings Department” in black on the top right of each page. In the upper right corner was a line for an “Account No.” and below that was a line for the “Sheet No.” Very occasionally a “1” would be entered on the line, but the pages were not numbered. 3 3/8” from the left edge was a long line for “Name,” and for “Address.” The address was a post office name. If the person lived in Leonardtown, their address was often “Local.” There were small boxes at the head of each of five columns with printed titles. The five columns appeared twice on each page and it was easy to assign one set of five to one person and the second set of five to another person. Many, but not all, of the pages were used that way. Sometimes there were notes at the top of a page about an estate or other details of the account.
