1995.001.1182Description
Black and white 3 1/2"h x 3 1/2"w photo of the interior of Saint George's Church in Valley Lee. This view is from the choir loft or gallery toward the altar. The altar rail has a dark hand rail and white posts. The altar table has a long white covering and a smaller dark covering with six candlesticks on the table. Two down spotlights are boxed in with draperies hanging from the box and a crucifix in the center high above the altar. Additional curtains cover the space between the side doors and the altar. The left door to the sacristy is closed and there is a lace shade over the window. The right door to the sacristy is open. A large statue of Mary is suspended on the wall above a small table on the left and a statue of Jesus? is in a similar position on the right. Farther left than Mary's statue may be a window. There is an American flag on a pole in the left front corner of the altar rail. There are three hanging light fixtures--the globes look like inverted mushrooms. Something is hanging on the wall on the right, but it is not really visible in the photo. Mr. Fenwick's text: "Built in 1851."
