Scope and Content

1 folder ; 11 3/4" x 9 1/2" August 8, 1914 Form for proposal to move the Mechanicsville Post Office. The postmaster, in this case Helena R. Guyther, had provide several measurements of the building from its present site to the new site. Nowhere did it say why the move was necessary. A second sheet had a large bulls eye to diagram the written information. August 6, 1942 Form used to tell where the Post Office was so it could be correctly represented on postal maps. One question asked how mail was supplied to the office. The answer was a Star Route from Washington, D.C. The was both a bulls-eye and a four square image to use to site the building. The postmaster was still Helena R. Guyther. March 25, 1947 Same form as above. It was stamped "New Site." The site was 450 feet from the old site. There was no longer a railroad station in Mechanicsville. A postal map accompanied the form and the new location was shown on that map. September 30, 1971 List of all Mechanicsville postmasters from its establishment in November 1870 to September 30, 1971. There were 14 people listed, some of whom held office more than once.
