Bayly Janson-La Palme worked with Lois Green Carr on economic data about colonial Maryland. Ms. Janson-La Palme then did her own work on economic data about Saint Mary's County from 1790-1870. She relied on census data, assessment records, estate inventories, etc. Her dissertation was based on this material, although the analysis in the dissertation only went up through 1840. The voluminous handwritten data was later transcribed onto 5 1/4" floppy disks using PC WRITE. That data was run on the mainframe computer at the University of Maryland. The disks, spread sheets, and other printouts are at the Hall of Records of the Maryland Archives.

This is followed by columns for dates: 1780, 1790, 1798, 1800, 1810, 1820, 1830, 1840, 1850, 1860, 1862, 1863. The entries in the columns are more sparse than some ledger pages.

7 sheets comparing the agricultural census of 1850 and 1860. There are Roman numerals on the far left and the name of the farm owner. There is a line for 1850 values and one for 1860 values. The presence or absence of an overseer is noted, acres, slaves, several columns I don't understand, wheat, corn, tobacco, and then maybe the columns are meant to show increases/decreases in a particular crop.Collection
