Bayly Janson-La Palme worked with Lois Green Carr on economic data about colonial Maryland. Ms. Janson-La Palme then did her own work on economic data about Saint Mary's County from 1790-1870. She relied on census data, assessment records, estate inventories, etc. Her dissertation was based on this material, although the analysis in the dissertation only went up through 1840. The voluminous handwritten data was later transcribed onto 5 1/4" floppy disks using PC WRITE. That data was run on the mainframe computer at the University of Maryland. The disks, spread sheets, and other printouts are at the Hall of Records of the Maryland Archives.
This is a copy of a map held in the Maryland Hall of Records of land tracts in St. Mary's County. It appears to be part of a series done in May 1854 when the county commissioners were trying to settle competing land claims. Most of the tracts are titled and many of them have page numbers. There is a compass rose in the upper right corner, a cartouche on the left with the scale and date, and an inset of "Notes, References, and Explanations" in the lower left corner. The box shows "Lines Established by the Commission, Lines by Consent of the Parties, Lines of Original Tracts, ... Roads Public [and] Private ..." Cox's Endeavor is in the lower right corner, Forrest of Dean is on the left, poor house land is on the top left and James Norrises land is near the compass rose. This appears to be an area south of Leonardtown, north of Mulberry Fields, and west of Clifton Factory. Many of the lot lines have numbers of perches? between posts. There is more information on this map than on 2012.007.0037. The sheet has been folded several times and there is an area of loss in the left center.
