1 sheet ; 22" x 17"
Bayly Janson-La Palme worked with Lois Green Carr on economic data about colonial Maryland. Ms. Janson-La Palme then did her own work on economic data about Saint Mary's County from 1790-1870. She relied on census data, assessment records, estate inventories, etc. Her dissertation was based on this material, although the analysis in the dissertation only went up through 1840. The voluminous handwritten data was later transcribed onto 5 1/4" floppy disks using PC WRITE. That data was run on the mainframe computer at the University of Maryland. The disks, spread sheets, and other printouts are at the Hall of Records of the Maryland Archives.
This is an outline map that Ms. Janson-La Palme had made to use for various purposes. The lines are in a medium teal color. The lines for the hundreds were whited out and Ms. Janson-LaPalme used a fine point black pen to draw roads and indicate landings, stores, tobacco inspection warehouses, churches, and mills. A few locations were identified using small adhesive labels. Leonardtown was a black block close to the middle of the sheet. Near the center of the lower edge was a Key sheet pasted on the map. In the upper left corner of the sheet, outside the "frame," in pencil "Chapter I 1790 Landscape Based on 1801 County Road Book & Griffin's [sic] 1794 map."Collection
