Description

5 5/8"h x 4 1/8"w sepia tone photo of John Francis Dent in 1889. This was a head shot. Mr. Dent's hair was completely white, as was his neatly trimmed beard and mustache. He wore wire-rimmed glasses. His white shirt had a wing collar and he wore a patterned tie with a large knot. The end of the tie disappeared inside his coat. He wore a heavy dark coat trimmed with grosgrain ribbon on the edge of the collar and small lapels. In the space below the image is printed "Nephew's 193 Pennsylvania Avenue, Washington, D.C." ************************************ Text on verso: in pencil: "Aunt Fannie's father" in black fountain ink in Mr. Dent's handwriting: "To Miss Willie Elder Turin Georgia With the affectionate regard of her friend and relation John F. Dent of St. Mary's Co. Md. Dec. 12th, 1889"
