John F. Dent's pocket account book for 1853-1857. The information alternates between financial accounts with people and merchants in Baltimore and a listing of agricultural products from his land, such as the wool clip, bushels of wheat, hogsheads of tobacco, etc. There are supply and grocery lists included for his family and his wards, Robert Posey being one. This a black leather notebook. The back cover is larger than the front cover and folds over it to make a flap. There is also a small accordion file on the inside back cover, but there is nothing in it. A few pages in the back have been removed. The entries are in ink and pencil; some of the writing is incredibly tiny. A tab of paper indicates that this was the 1st diary filmed.Collection
