John F. Dent's pocket diary for 1869Entry/Object ID
2004.008.0241Description
John F. Dent's pocket diary for 1869. It was a present from F. O. St. Clair, January 1, 1869. This diary is a combination of account book and daily notes. The entries are nearly all in pencil; some of the writing is incredibly tiny. This is a black leather book with the back cover large enough to wrap around to the front. "John F. Dent" is stamped in gold on the flap. The edge of the flap is straight. There is an accordion pocket at the back of this book and a loop for a writing implement. Most of the light colored pages are for specific days and there are memoranda and cash account sheets in the back. The pages are numbered up to p. 125, but then the numbering was abandoned. Mr. Dent entered what he needed wherever he wanted to put it. A tab of paper indicates that this was the 7th diary filmed.Collection
