2004.008.0253Description
John F. Dent's pocket diary for 1880, with a title page that says "National diary 1880." It was presented to Mr. Dent by Dr. St. Clair. This diary is a combination of account book and daily notes. The entries are in lead pencil. This is a dark red leather book, brown on the inside, with the back cover large enough to wrap around to the front where it is secured in a slot on the front cover. There is a brass edge on the slot with "National diary" stamped next to the slot. The edges of the flap are slightly angled and the strap is rounded at the end. There is an accordion pocket at the back of this book, and a loop for a writing implement. The edges of the pages are gilded. Most of the light colored pages are for specific days and there are memoranda and cash account sheets in the back. A tab of paper indicates that this was the 19th diary filmed.Collection
