John F. Dent's pocket diary for 1882Entry/Object ID
2004.008.0255Description
John F. Dent's pocket diary for 1882, with a title page that says "Excelsior diary 1882." It was presented to Mr. Dent by Dr. St. Clair. This diary is a combination of account book and daily notes. The entries are in lead pencil. This is a dark red leather book, brown on the inside, with the back cover large enough to wrap around to the front where it is secured under a strap on the front cover. The edges of the flap are curved and the end of the strap echoes this design. There is an accordion double pocket at the back of this book, with a lovely scalloped edge, and a loop for a writing implement. There is a small pocket in the front cover as well, also with a scalloped edge. The edges of the pages are gilded. Most of the light colored pages are for specific days and there are memoranda and cash account sheets in the back. A tab of paper indicates that this was the 21st diary filmed.Collection
