2004.008.0257Description
John F. Dent's pocket diary for 1884, with a title page that says "Excelsior Diary 1884." It was presented to Mr. Dent by Dr. St. Clair. This diary is a combination of account book and daily notes. The entries are in lead pencil. This is a black leatherette book, black on the inside, with the back cover large enough to wrap around to the front. The corners of the flap are curved and Excelsior Diary is stamped in silver on a banner on the long axis. There is an accordion pocket at the back of this book. There is a loop for a writing implement. The edges of the pages are in red marble. Most of the light colored pages are for specific days and there are memoranda and cash account sheets in the back. On July 10 is a sad entry about the death of the Lillia Blakistone Dent, John F.'s wife. A tab of paper indicates that this was the 23rd diary filmed.Collection
