Description

John F. Dent's pocket diary for 1888, with a title page that says "Excelsior Diary for 1888." It was presented to Mr. Dent by Dr. St. Clair, his brother-in-law. This diary is a combination of an account book and daily notes. The entries are in lead pencil and just a few pages in purple pencil. This is a red-purple leather book, the same color on the inside, with the back cover large enough to wrap around to the front. The corners of the flap are curved. Stamped on the long axis of the the flap is "Excelsior Diary" in flowing script. There is an accordion pocket at the back of this book and a loop for a writing implement. The edges of the pages are red. Most of the light colored pages are for specific days and there are memoranda and cash account sheets in the back. A tab of paper indicates that this was the 27th diary filmed.
