John F. Dent's pocket diary for 1891Entry/Object ID
2004.008.0264Description
John F. Dent's pocket diary for 1891, with a title page that says "Excelsior Diary for 1891." It was presented to Mr. Dent by Dr. St. Clair, his brother-in-law. This diary is a combination of an account book and daily notes. The entries are in lead pencil. This is a black? leather book, with brown on the inside, with the back cover large enough to wrap around to the front and with a tab to slide under a strap. The edge of the flap is curved and that curve is echoed in the tab. "Excelsior Diary" is stamped in gold on the long axis of the flap. There is an accordion pocket at the back of this book and a loop for a writing implement. All edges of the pages are red marbled. Most of the light colored pages are for specific days and there are memoranda and cash account sheets in the back. The cash account pages were not used. A tab of paper indicates that this was the 30th diary filmed.Collection
