John F. Dent's pocket diary for 1892Entry/Object ID
2004.008.0265Description
John F. Dent's pocket diary for 1892, with a title page that says "Excelsior Diary 1892." It was presented to Mr. Dent by Dr. St. Clair, his brother-in-law. This diary is a combination of an account book and daily notes. The entries are in lead pencil. This is a dark red leather book, golden brown on the inside, with the back cover large enough to wrap around to the front and with a tab to slide under a strap. The edge of the flap is curved and that curve is echoed in the tab. There is a double accordion pocket at the front and back of this book and a loop for a writing implement. The divider in the back pocket has a lovely scalloped edge. All edges of the pages are gilded. Most of the light colored pages are for specific days and there are memoranda and cash account sheets in the back. Most of the cash account pages were not used, although a few were used for miscellaneous notes. A tab of paper indicates that this was the 31st diary filmed.Collection
