Description

This photo of John H. Jernigan has a portrait orientation. He is wearing a uniform of some variety, but no headgear. The jacket has epaulets, flapped breast pockets, and brass? buttons with something embossed on them. There is a distinctive pin on one lapel, but the image is fuzzy, so it does not help. There are no service ribbons on the jacket, but the stripes on the sleeve suggest the rank of sergeant. Since the picture was with the Charlotte Hall School pictures, Mr. Jernigan may be in a Charlotte Hall uniform rather than an real military uniform. In the lower right quadrant is written in ink, "To a darn good 'cousin' from a cousin John H. Jernigan." Mr. Jernigan has receding dark hair with a side part, generous ears, nose and mouth, and a decided cleft in his chin. His expression is an unfortunate unsmiling stare.
