J. Leonard Johnson lived in Bushwood and served in the Navy in WW II. The correspondence gives us a small glimpse into his life. He had his basic training in Bainbridge, Maryland and also attended signalman's school there in 1943 and early 1944. He was at a Navy Amphibious Training Station in Little Creek, Virginia and was somehow part of the Normandy landing. He was not discharged from the Navy until late 1945. After that he was back in Bushwood until he moved to Washington, D.C. to work in a bank.Collection
