This is a small black ledger with a red spine. "S.E. Ledger No. 921" is stamped in gold in a box on the front cover. Something illegible [likely the same text as the front] is stamped on the red spine and "Kate" is written in black ink near the top left corner of the book. On the inside front cover "Kate F. Dent Avenue, Md. June 1949" is written in black ink. There is a group of alphabetic tabbed pages in front that was used as an index for some entries. The pages were numbered through 16, but an additional 15 unnumbered pages were also used. Ms. Dent kept track of money she spent at the Maryland Tobacco Growers' Association, the cost of home repairs, labor costs for both the farm and her home, crops planted in a garden and on the farm, insurance and taxes, and the value of crops sold from 1949 to 1952. Sometime in 1952 she died and her final expenses were also entered into the book. There is a customer invoice folded in the front, a bill from Guy Brothers for fertilizer, a certificate from Odum Termite Control in Fredericksburg, Virginia for treating her home, and a deposit carbon from First National Bank of St. Mary's for a deposit made by Louise Dent.Collection
